At the ‘Support our Seaford Charities Event’ on 5th September, three lucky charities will be chosen in the prize draw to split the Mayor’s funds raised!
SEAFORD 24TH AUGUST 2021 - The Mayor of Seaford, Cllr Rodney Reed launched the Mayor’s Charity initiative upon being elected as Mayor in May 2020. Approximately 35 charities participated but unfortunately, as a result of the disruption of COVID-19, fundraising opportunities were limited. Rather than distribute a small amount to all charities by evenly splitting the funds raised, this fund is going to be entered into a prize draw, with the three lucky winners to be drawn by the Mayor at the event. All charities attending the Support our Seaford Charities event on the Martello Fields on Sunday 5th September will be entered in to draw.
Seaford Town Council fully supports the local community and community organisations. With this in mind, the Mayor’s Charity Initiative was set up by the Mayor, Cllr Rodney Reed. He could see that all local charities were suffering due to the pandemic. Therefore, rather than just choose one charity, the Mayor launched the initiative to help boost awareness of all the local charities who support the town to enable them to highlight their own fundraising efforts.
The initiative was open to all local charities and not for profit organisations, and has included their details being highlighted on the Mayor of Seaford’s Facebook page and website. More recently, the organisations have been invited to be interviewed by the Mayor to give them a platform to again highlight their valuable work and to raise awareness of their current and greatest needs.

The initiative has continued into 2021-2022 as Cllr Reed was re-elected as Mayor for another term.
Quote from Mayor of Seaford, Cllr Reed; "Seaford Town Council has Mayor's Charity funds from last year that we were unable to distribute because of the social distancing requirements that were in place. 'Support our Seaford Charities' is our first opportunity to publicly distribute this money. With so many charities and not for profit organisations booking stalls for the day, a cash draw is our preference because it is the simplest and fairest way to make the money quickly available. Adam Chugg, the Town Clerk, will be with me to make the draw at 2pm on Sunday 5 September. All of the charities and not for profit organisations which have a stall at the event will have a free entry in the draw, with prizes of £250, £150 and £100 which will be a worthwhile 'top up' to the funds their stalls will raise during the day. The planning and organising group for this event comprises: Martello Rotary; NP&S Lions; Seaford Rotary; The National Coastwatch Institution (Newhaven) and the Seaford Bonfire Society. Seaford Town Council is grateful to the event organisers for giving us this opportunity for a cash draw during their event and for organising what will be a special event for our town and our charities".
The Support our Seaford Charities event is free to enter. Sunday 5th September on the Martello Fields, 10am to 4pm.
