Elms for Armistice Project

Submitted on 14 December 2018 by STC Officers

On Friday 7th December Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lindsay Freeman visited Annecy Catholic Primary School for the planting of a memorial Elm Tree.

Councillor Freeman was joined by Mr Paul Gallagher; Acting Head Teacher, Year 6 students and Seaford Tree Wardens.  She thanked the children for attending and explained what a memorable occasion it was and how the trees will be there for many years to come.

Head Boy Thomas and Head Girl Anna both Year 6 students read out the names of the 104 soldiers while everyone bowed their heads in respect.  Each child then took a turn to spread soil around the base of the tree.

In total 104 trees will be planted around Seaford and Bishopstone to remember the WW1 war dead.

Many thanks to Seaford Tree Wardens for their help.
