Mayor's Chosen Charities

Submitted on 22 July 2015 by STC Officers

Seaford Town Council is pleased to announce that Seaford Lifeguards and CTLA have been selected by Mayor of Seaford David Argent to be the charities that he will support during his Mayoral year.

Both of these organisations strive to assist the people of Seaford.

Seaford Lifeguards was formed in 1970 and has been providing a voluntary life guard service to Seaford Beach since its formation. The organisation is a charity and supported by voluntary donations from members of the public, other organisations and by application for Grants.

Seaford Lifeguards operate from 1st May until 30th September and provide a rescue service at weekends. It is one of the top recognised Lifeguard training centres in the UK and provides lifeguard qualifications that enable persons to gain employment Worldwide.

It is a Declared Facility with Her Majesty’s Coast Guard and respond to incidents within their operational area. Seaford Lifeguards are also part of the Lewes District Flood preparedness plan and support the Sussex Flood Rescue team.

CTLA has been serving local communities since 1995 and is a registered charity. Their aim is to provide an accessible transport service for almost anyone, especially those who have difficulty using conventional public transport services.

They work closely with local and county councils in order to provide the best possible service. The type of service, fares and who the service is available to depends upon where people live.

Mayor Argent said “Over time many people have spoken very highly to me of both of the organisations that I have chosen to support.

I often hear people say that if it weren’t for the CTLA buses they would rarely be able to leave their house, their drivers go beyond their call of duty for the people of Seaford that are in need of their assistance.

The Seaford Lifeguards are on duty 24/7 to respond to any situation that comes along the coast of Seaford, they rely heavily on donations. I believe that this is an important rescue service for Seaford and I am more than happy to support them.”
