As has been widely publicised, following recent storms, two ships lost containers in recent days. These containers and debris from them have been washing up along the coast from Hampshire through to East Sussex. We're aware that one of these containers has landed on Seaford Beach, we have been working closely with East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council and other agencies to ensure that the containers are made safe and the clear up operation is undertaken rapidly.
We're pleased that the containers have now been secured ready for later removal and that a substantial amount of the debris from the containers has now been cleared. We would like to thank all the members of the public who kindly volunteered to help with this clean up.
We have now become aware that an additional container has landed off of Seaford Head, we have made the appropriate authorities aware of this and will continue to engage with them to ensure that the containers are removed along with any associated debris, as soon as possible.
