South Hill Barn Parking

Update: The parking machines are planned to be installed and commissioned on the 12th of June 2026.

This trial is a proactive step to help manage parking more effectively ahead of the busy summer months—reducing congestion and improving the experience for both residents and visitors.

Because Seaford residents already support the Seaford Head Estate and South Hill Barn through their council tax, the Council is committed to ensuring locals continue to benefit during this trial. Full details can be found here

Public Toilets

The toilets will be locked daily between 6pm and 8am during winter, and between 8pm and 8am during summer. We have followed the same timings as Lewes and Eastbourne District Council.

Comments have also been made that the Martello Toilets are not being cleaned regularly, however the contractor cleans the toilet block twice per day (Sept – March), and three times per day during the summer (April – Aug).

Unfortunately, it is not possible to control misuse of these toilets which spoil them for other residents and visitors. Misuse and vandalism remain an ongoing issue, resulting in items being broken, removed, or otherwise left in a poor state, sometimes we do have to shut the toilets to carry out repair work.

There has been a high number of reports of misuse and vandalism, which has resulted in items being forcefully broken, removed and the toilet facilities generally being left in a poor state.

The Town Council is not ignoring these issues and is working hard to mitigate the risks and damage to these facilities:

  • CCTV is now installed to deter purposeful vandalism
  • We are carrying out research into the toilet furniture within these facilities and whether they can be replaced with an even more durable and anti-vandal equivalent
  • We are working with the cleaning contractor to continue to replenish products and report vandalism

The Town Council shares the frustrations of residents and visitors and apologises for any inconvenience this causes.

The map below provides details of all public toilets in the town, should you need to use another facility:

Martello Changing Places Facility

Changing Places Facility – Temporary Closure

The Changing Places facility on Seaford Seafront remains temporarily closed following extensive damage to the unit, including deformation of the entire frame, making repair impossible.

A new replacement frame and door have been commissioned by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, production issues have caused delays to the supply of these components. We are in regular contact with the manufacturer and are actively pursuing the parts required so that installation and safety checks can be completed as soon as possible.

We understand how important this facility is for those who rely on it, and we are working to reopen it at the earliest safe opportunity. We will provide further updates as soon as they are available to Seaford Town Council.

If you have any questions, please contact: admin@seafordtowncouncil.gov.uk

For details on the nearest alternative changing places facilities, please visit the Changing Places website.

We appreciate that the facilities are not to everyone’s preference. These units are environmentally friendly toilets and operate differently from standard flush facilities. Sawdust is used to manage waste and odour, and regular cleaning is in place. While we appreciate, they are more rustic in nature, we are unable to make further modifications to the design or upgrade them. We will continue to monitor and maintain them within the limits of this system.

Thanks for your understanding.

Seafront Litter Bins

Seaford Litter Bin Trial

As part of the Town Council’s Strategic Objectives and Strategy Programme 2025–2027, Councillors have agreed a trial of new smart, solar-powered litter bins along the seafront to improve waste management.

What is being trialled?

13 Bigbelly Smart Max Compactor bins along the promenade, from Splash Point to The Buckle, spaced approximately 230 metres apart. The full specification can be found here.

Future Street is supplying the bins as part of a free trial. The trial will run from June to September 2026.

These innovative bins use solar power to compact waste internally, increasing their capacity to around five times that of the old-style bins.
The enclosed design prevent access by seagulls and other animals, while smart sensors provide real-time information on fill levels, enabling more efficient collection and maintenance.

The bins are expected to:

  • Reduce overflowing bins and litter along the seafront.
  • Minimise waste being scattered by birds and animals.
  • Improve the efficiency of waste collection services.
  • Enhance the appearance and cleanliness of the promenade.

Where can I find related reports and further information?

Full information on all waste management options explored and presented can be found on the Town Council website, including:

Assets & Facilities Committee Meeting – 26 February 2026 (including seafront bin report)

Full Council Meeting – 29 April 2026 (including seafront bin report)

Will signage be installed?

Officers have developed a signage proposal, which is subject to cost approval and the necessary permissions being granted. If fully approved, signage will be installed at key entry and exit points and at central locations from July until the end of September.

 Monitoring and Review

The trial will be closely monitored throughout the summer. Following the trial period, the Town Council will review the findings in autumn 2026 to help inform decisions on the future provision of seafront waste facilities.

Recycling Facilities

The Town Council has received requests for recycling bins along the seafront.
Following discussions with the relevant waste authority, the advice received is that recycling facilities in this environment are highly susceptible to contamination from incorrect waste being deposited. As a result, the collected material would be unlikely to meet the requirements for recycling.

Get Involved

If you are interested in helping to keep Seaford’s coastline clean, please consider joining one of the regular beach cleans organised by Plastic Free Seaford.

Further Enquiries

If you have any concerns or questions regarding seafront litter bin provision that are not addressed in the published reports or information above, please contact admin@seafordtowncouncil.gov.ukwith the specific details of your enquiry and we will direct you accordingly.

Seafront Parking

As a seaside town, Seaford has contended for many years with holiday-makers utilising the seafront’s free parking..

In 2024, the Town Council worked with Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council to put in place parking restrictions to prevent motorhomes from parking for over 12 hours at Seaford Esplanade (the only parking area along the seafront that Seaford Town Council is responsible for).

The Town Council is aware that motorhome parking remains a concern along the seafront and continues to work with partners agencies Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council to identify and implement effective measures, where they can, to reduce the frustration that this causes to residents and visitors.

In the meantime, if you witness incidences of unsafe driving or vehicles causing an obstruction, these can be reported to:

East Sussex County Council:

Phone: Call 01273 335500 and select option 1. If no one answers, leave a message with your name and number, and a team member should call back within two days.

Email: Email the parking customer service team.

Online: Report the issue through East Sussex County Council’s website.

Reporting to Sussex Police: If a vehicle is causing an obstruction, contact Sussex Police by phone at 101 or email your local policing team

Flags on the A259

Seaford Town Council is not responsible for the lampposts and/or land where the flags have been fixed.
