At its Full Council meeting on Thursday 29 January 2026, Seaford Town Council considered and approved the draft budget for the 2026–2027 financial year, following detailed review by its Committees before Christmas. As part of this approval, the Town Council set its required precept at £1,283,802.

The precept represents the Town Council’s share of Council Tax collected by the billing authority, Lewes District Council. This funding enables the Town Council to deliver the priorities outlined in its strategic plan and to manage, maintain, and improve its extensive range of community assets and facilities across the town.
The Town Council’s precept accounts for around 5% of an average household’s total Council Tax bill. The remainder is distributed between East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and Sussex Police.
Through careful long-term financial planning and responsible budgeting, Seaford Town Council has been able to limit the increase in its precept to £2.87 per year for a Band D property—equivalent to just under 6 pence per week. (Band D is used nationally as the standard reference point for explaining Council Tax levels, each Council Tax Bill will identify which band a property is in).
This represents a modest 2.24% rise compared with last year’s precept and remains below the UK Retail Prices Index (RPI) annual inflation rate, which stood at 3.8% in January 2026.
To support residents in understanding how their contributions are spent, the Town Council will be issuing its annual “Your Town Council Tax Explained” leaflet. This will be delivered to all households alongside the 2026–2027 Council Tax bills by Lewes District Council in March 2026.
