There is a long and unbroken tradition in our country of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons. On the 2nd of June, the nation will celebrate a feat no other monarch has managed to achieve, our Queens Platinum Jubilee with over 2,200 beacons being lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK overseas territories in recognition of her long and selfless service.

Seaford’s beacon is placed near ‘The Shoal‘ at  Splash Point allowing the local communities, individuals and organisations to come together and pay tribute to HRH Queen Elizabeth and will be lit at 9.45 pm by Seaford Bonfire Society.

Prior to the Beacon Lighting at 9.35 pm, Richard Brookes a local Piper will be playing ‘Diu Regnare’ a unique tune specially written for this historic Jubilee by Piper Stuart Liddell, 2020 Glenfiddich Champion and Pipe Major of the World Champion Pipe Band, Inveraray and District.

Chris Goodchild Bugler of Seaford Silver Band, will be undertaking the Bugle Call – ‘Majesty’ at 9.40pm

At exactly 9.45 pm, to coincide with the lighting of the Beacon, the Archway Choir will be performing ‘A song for the Commonwealth’, filling the nation with the sound of music as we celebrate this special moment in The Queen’s life.

Seaford Town Council would like to thank Smith Metal Fabrications Ltd in Newhaven who have kindly built the beacon, and Wynnes in Seaford who are supplying and installing the post, both kindly donated free of charge.

Mayor and Cllr Honeyman said, “This will be a once in a lifetime event, to witness Seaford celebrating and honouring her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth for her Platinum Jubilee, with over 2,200 beacons being lit on the evening. It will be fantastic to see many people from our community coming together to be part of this celebration, please do come along and join Seaford Town Council at the lighting of the beacon ceremony.”
