Following a lively and competitive recruitment campaign—culminating in vibrant live auditions on Saturday 28 February—Seaford Town Council is delighted to proclaim Ben Robinson as the new Deputy Town Crier and Deputy Serjeant at Mace.

This prestigious honorary role has been created to support Seaford’s much loved Town Crier and Serjeant at Mace, Peter White, who has proudly served the town since Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. As one of the longest serving Town Criers in the country, and as he approaches an extraordinary 50 years in the role, Peter is eager to share his wealth of experience with a deputy who will help uphold Seaford’s traditions—and eventually carry the bell forward for future generations.

Working side by side with Peter, the new Deputy Town Crier will help champion community spirit, elevate civic events, and celebrate the unique character that makes Seaford shine.

Seaford Town Crier & Serjeant at Mace, Peter White, said: “After 49 years of a single voice, Seaford will have a brace of dedicated Criers, with different interests – some of you may recognise Ben as Lord Monteagle who leads the Seaford Bonfire procession – and cover for each other in the twin roles of Public Proclaimer and Bearer of Elizabeth Tudor’s Town Mace.

The selection process enjoyed the services of distinguished local figures and town crying experts, and we were lucky to have such expert judges. The candidates had to deliver a Cry and explain their reasons for loving their hometown!”

Ben’s first official appearance will take place at the Seaford Town Forum on Thursday 30 April, where he will be formally introduced to the community. Come along, say hello, and join us in giving Ben a hearty Seaford welcome!
